Starting Putts On Line
For this drill you’ll need a ball marker and 5 golf balls as well as a tee to mark a certain distance from the hole.
Using the different distances below to set up the drill, find a flat putt for each and place a tee in the ground to hold your spot. Set your 5 balls down next to the tee. Then place the ball marker 2 feet away from the tee in line with the tee and hole.
If you were to draw a straight line from the tee to the hole, the ball marker should fall on that line perfectly.
Since the putt is flat you’ll now stroke putts to the hole and the goal is to see the ball roll over the ball marker.
If you’re at home and don’t have a hole to putt to you can do this drill still because we’re more concerned about if the ball starts on line by crossing over the ball marker than if you made the putt.
The hole gives the drill a more realistic sense and validates good putts that start on line when you see the ball go into the cup.
