Best Golf Chipping Mats: Review
One of the best investments I ever made was buying a golf mat to practice chipping and full swing golf shots indoors. Even though it’s synthetic turf and not the same as real grass, it still is better than hitting off of your carpet.
There are many things to consider when purchasing a chipping mat such as durability, size, price, material, and levelness. Each golf mat review below will do our best to review these features so you can pick the best one for your at home golf practice.
Durability is obviously a huge factor as you want a golf mat that can hold up after thousands of chip shots and golf swings. I’ve found that the higher priced mats truly are better at holding up but I’ll include multiple options today depending on what your budget is when buying a golf chipping mat.
You also want to consider levelness. Some golf mats are small so your feet don’t actually stand on the mat itself which means the golf ball sits higher than your feet and not on the same level. We include some options below like you’d find at a driving range.
Here are the hitting mats we’ll be reviewing:
- Rukket Dual Chipping Mat + Pop Up Net + Balls
- Rukket Tri Turf Golf Mat
- HealPT Golf Mat for Indoor / Outdoor Practice
- Callaway FT Launch Zone Hitting Mat
- P4G 3’x5′ Driving Range Golf Mat
- 77Tech 3 Surface Golf Hitting Mat
Additionally, you’ll need a golf chipping net to chip balls into for practicing your short game. We recommend checking out the Podiumax Pop Up Chipping Net which can be purchased for less than $20 on Amazon.
Alright, let’s dive into today’s review of the best golf mats for indoor chipping practice.
Rukket Dual Chipping Mat + Pop Up Net
Our first hitting mat option is a 2 for 1 combo. You get a golf mat with two different turf options and it comes with a pop up chipping net to hit into.
All you have to do is supply the golf balls if you want to use real ones to practice feel and control. It does come with synthetic rubber balls but we prefer to practice chipping with high spin, high quality balls like TaylorMade’s TP5.
The chipping mat has synthetic turf to simulate both fairway and rough conditions for chipping practice. It has a 100% lifetime warranty guarantee so if your chipping mat starts breaking down, request a replacement.
The Rukket dual chipping mat is 25 inches in length by 16 inches in width. It also sits about 1 to 2 inches above the ground so your feet will not be on the same level.
It also comes with a removable Rukket rubber tee if you’d like to use it as a regular hitting mat as well in addition to practicing your chipping. For that, we recommend buying a larger hitting net to catch the balls like the Galieo Golf Hitting Net for under $100.
This chipping net starts just under $70, making it affordable for most golfers and is a great deal when you consider everything you are getting.
Rukket Tri-Turf Golf Hitting Grass Mat
As you can see from the photo, Rukket designed this indoor / outdoor tri-turf golf mat to help you simulate three different types of lies. Practice any lie you want with the fairway, rough, and tight lie separation so that there is never a shot you won’t be prepared for on the course.
The standard golf mat option comes 25 inches by 16 inches. They’ve also made an XL option which is 36 inches by 23.5 inches. (See pricing difference here on Amazon)
The Rukket XL Tri-Turf portable golf mat is the perfect mat for the on-the-go golfer. Throw it down in your backyard, garage, or basement and you’ll be ready to practice in seconds.
Enhanced durability allows for even the most rigorous of practice sessions. And the extra thick rubber base will keep the mat in place during your practice session.
This product includes (1) Rukket XL 23.5in x 36in Tri-Turf Golf Hitting Mat Attack and (12) plastic tees of varying heights.
Rukket also has a 100% LIFETIME WARRANTY AND SATISFACTION GUARANTEE which includes lifetime replacement parts and outstanding USA-based customer service for no-risk purchasing.
HealPT Golf Mat for Indoor or Outdoor Practice
Another affordable option that fits almost any golfers budget. This portable golf mat can be purchased on Amazon for under $50.
It comes with 3 different surfaces to simulate the fairway, the rough, and the tee box. It works great outdoors as well as indoors and is easily portable if you want to take it with you on the go.
To practice tee shots instead of chipping, just insert a real tee in the tee box grass to practice your drivers realistically. Using real tees instead of rubber is one feature we like that differentiates it from other golf mats.
This chipping mat also comes with 6 yellow foam golf balls that mimic spin and limit shot distance if you’re swinging or chipping indoors.
This golf practice mat is 25 inches x 16 inches when laid out for use. Great size to hit from each cut of grass while standing in the same position. For easy storage and travel, fold the mat into a small 8 inch x 8 inch rectangle.
Callaway FT Launch Zone Hitting Golf Mat
If you’re looking for a budget friendly golf chipping mat, then the Callaway FT Launch Zone Golf Mat is a great option. It’s one of the cheapest at $21 on our review list today but has some features you’ll love.
The tru-turf surface simulates hitting from a real fairway to help you with practicing your chipping indoors at home this off-season. It’s material is highly resistant to wear and tear like other golf mats.
The ultra-durable, heavy rubber backing minimizes sliding at impact and helps soften the strike to better protect your hands, wrists and clubs from scratches and damage.
The Callaway FT Launch Zone Golf Mat is also a great option if you want to practice real tee shots as well as fairway shots. It includes a patented tee holder that holds any tee or can be removed for inserting a fixed height rubber tee (not included, sold separately).
This golf chipping mat comes in two size options: 8” x 6” or 12″ x 24″’ and pricing starts around $21 for the smaller version and $42 for the larger version.
P4G 3′ x 5′ Commercial Golf Mat
Our first commercial grade golf mat is the P4G 3′ x 5′ hitting mat. It’s more expensive as you’d expect, but you’re getting a really high quality golf mat that you’d find at an indoor / outdoor driving range.
The first thing you’ll notice is this golf mat gives you plenty of size to also stand on it and be level with the ball, unlike the other golf chipping mat options reviewed so far.
It’s a thick, heavier golf mat to help absorb club shock and prevent sliding across the floor from your golf shots. The base layer is 10mm of EVA rubber followed by 12mm of Nylon turf, making it one of the more durable golf mats on the market.
This golf mat is 3 feet wide and 5 feet in length so you can practice a wide range of shots including drives using the rubber tee it comes with.
It’s a great golf mat for practicing chip shots as well as iron shots both indoors and outdoors, which is why we’d recommend this particular mat if you’re trying to find commercial grade golf mats.
Pricing starts just under $120 the last time we checked. It can be bought on Amazon and easily returned if you decide it’s not the right fit for what you’re looking for in a golf mat.
77tech 3 Surface Golf Hitting Mat
If you one to upgrade from the standard commercial golf hitting mat, then the 77Tech Golf Mat would be the next best option.
It comes with high quality tri-turf so you can practice on multiple turf styles to simulate different shots face on the golf course. This differentiates it from the standard commercial grade golf mats which are one surface type usually.
On the bottom of this golf mat, you’ll find high elastic EVA, flexural material which has compressive strength to absorb shock of your golf shots on your floor indoors and makes it resistance to move or slide.
Another cool feature is the multiple regions of this golf mat like the putting area and sand pit area in addition to multiple levels of turf for different chip shot practice.
Additionally, it has feet place holders to help you practice your set up technique and the material is durable to allow you to wear your golf shoes while practicing your swings and chip shots.
This golf mat comes 3 feet by 5 feet and is portable if you’d like to use it both indoors and outdoors. Pricing starts under $190 on Amazon the last time we checked.
